Old man winter doesn't have to put an end to your climbing season. When the going gets cold, you go ice climbing. New River Mountain Guides can put together ice climbing trips for you to any part of the country. We work with guides and guide services based in ice climbing destinations from North Conway, NH to Ouray, CO.
Winter 2012-2013 has been one of the mildest ones on record here in WV, so this February we're heading North to New Hampshire to get our ice climbing fix around North Conway area. We're partnering with CATHEDRAL MOUNTAIN GUIDES, which is a New Hampshire-based guide service run by American Mountain Guide Association (AMGA) certified guide Bayard Russell, Jr.
Bayard's climbing has focused on technical ice, mixed and rock routes, as well as multiple expeditions to the mountains of Alaska, including summits of Denali and Mount Hunter. Bayard is distinguished as one of the most active first ascentionists in New England, on both rock and ice/mixed terrain. His achievements have included first ascents of some of the Northeast’s hardest mixed climbs, including a variation to Jeff Lowe’s famous Gorillas on the Mist in the Adirondacks, called Endangered Species, and the stunning Painted Wall Icicle. Since 2008 he has run Cathedral Mountain Guides, a rock, ice and mountaineering guiding service based in New Hampshire’s White Mountains. Bayard is an AMGA-certified guide, and he serves as a director of the New Hampshire Mountain Rescue Service.
Also on the guide docket are Freddie Wilkinson, Janet Bergman and Kevin Mahoney. We're psyched to give you the opportunit to learn from such a high caliber climbers as this crew. Freddie and Janet are Mountain Hardwear Athletes who are talented alpine climbers who travel the world in search of unclimbed objectives. Kevin is no slouch himself, he's an IFMGA certified guide and owner of Mahoney Alpine Adventures, based in New Hampshire. Click on their names to read more about each of them.
