Come out and enjoy an evening of with climbing athletes Elaina Arenz-Smith and Jessa Goebel. We'll energize you to climb more, provide you the opportunity to learn new climbing skills, and motivate you to visit the New River Gorge, WV.
The evening will include: 5:00-8:30 EVOLV climbing shoe demo (free) 6:30-8:30 2-hour climbing workshops on self-rescue and training for climbing 9:00-9:30 Slideshow on the New River Gorge, WV
EVOLV SHOE DEMO 5:00 - 8:30pm
Try out the newest climbing shoe models on the market before they buy. This is a free demo to all people in the gym that day.
You'll be able to sample the following models: Defy, Elektra, Hera, Talon, Optimus, Optimus Prime and more!
SIGN UP FOR INSTRUCTIONAL CLINICS --Self Rescue --Training for Climbing 6:30 - 8:30pm
Elaina Arenz-Smith will instruct the 2-hour self-rescue clinic. Arenz-Smith is a certified American Mountain Guide Association Single Pitch Instructor and owner of New River Mountain Guides. This clinic will cover:
Knots and friction hitches
How to escape the belay
Passing a knot while lowering a "victim"
Ascending the rope
Jessa Goebel of Climb Fit will instruct the 2-hour clinic on training for climbing. This clinic will cover:
Properly warming up
Training exercises that can be done on the climbing wall, and workout routines that can be done away from the climbing wall.
The climbing exercises will cover a range or methods that will help with technique, power, endurance, and power- endurance.
The workouts will consist of exercises that are climbing specific, focusing on core and upper body strength.
Advance registration and a $25 donation is requested. The donation will benefit the non-profit the HERA Foundation, Access Fund, New River Alliance of Climbers, SE Climbers Coalition, and others. Contact your climbing gym to sign-up. Spaces are limited!
Elaina Arenz-Smith will present a multi-media presentation on the climbing at the world-renowned New River Gorge, WV. This amazing climbing area is a short weekend trip away for climbers looking for a change of scenery and it's the perfect place to put your new climbing skills to the test!
