STERLING ROPE and CHICKS ROCK present:
The 3rd Annual Girly Gathering

September 21-23, 2012

All the Sterling Rope ladies in the house!
2011 Weekend Recap from Chicks Climbing Newest Girly Guide: Rachel Melville

I'm just coming off a post weekend high after experiencing the Chicks Rock Girly Gathering at the New River Gorge.

I am a full-time engineer who volunteered as an assistant instructor for the weekend, and I had no idea what an amazing event the "Girly Gathering" would be!  I wanted to pass along a HUGE thank you to Sterling, not only for making the BEST ropes on the market,  but for making events like this possible.

I have climbed exclusively on Sterling Ropes for the past 6 years, and have been overwhelmingly satisfied.  The feedback we received after the NRG Gathering, was equally phenomenal.  I truly feel that each client in my group was able to take something tangible away from the clinic to apply and use on a personal level.

Safety was a huge focus for us, and I believe that "future accidents" are potentially prevented as a result of clinics like these. They place women in a safe environment where they can learn from other certified guides appropriate safety measures, and not just "some dude" who is teaching them.  It was amazing how many women/people who climb on a regular basis do not know appropriate methods of belaying/rappelling/cleaning, uses for daisy chains, or even basic safety systems.  Having the privilege to educate women on these issues is so important.  Not to mention the personal gains they received in terms of physical technique and mental training.

As an "outsider" to the guide world, I was able to witness firsthand the marked impact these clinics have. The weekend was truly a success, and it truly wouldn't be possible without you folks at Sterling. Thank you SO MUCH for your support!

Chicks Climbing is partnering with Sterling Rope to bring you our new short format courses in the infamous New River Gorge in West Virginia. For those of you who remember the Sterling Rope “Goddess on the Rocks” program, we are bringing them back as Girly Gatherings! Now you east coast and southern girls can stay close to home and get some rock climbing in this summer.

The New River Gorge is one of the premier climbing areas on the east coast. Between the New River Gorge, Summerville Lake and the Meadows, there are more than 1,600 established routes on 60+ miles of cliff line. The rock is solid sandstone with heights ranging from 40 to 150 feet. There is something for everyone: overhangs, roofs, splitter cracks, slabs and dihedrals. Most routes can be accessed in a 15 – 45 minute hike.
